When it comes to sun protection I use three products; a hat, sun screen, and sun glasses. I am very particular with these products because I teach golf in south Alabama, or as we like to call it LA (Lower Alabama). If you have never been to "LA" it is hot, humid and sunny, so sun protection is a must. Over the 20 years that I have lived here I have tried so many products and I think I have it down to my favorites. My hat of choice is the Imperial Old Norse bucket hat. My Sunscreens of choice are Neutrogena and Coppertone. And My sunglasses of choice are Maui Jim.
Hands down the best sun hat for golf. The brim is wide and has great structure so it doesn't collapse in the wind. The cool core fabric allows you to get it wet and it gets cooler, what a bonus. I have been wearing this hat since 2018. I was the first person in "LA" wearing this hat, and now I see them everywhere. I keep two hats in rotation and get two years of wear.
When I play golf I will often wear a regular golf cap and the Imperial X210 is my favorite. The hat shown above is one I had done for my church, Little Flower. The X210 is lightweight and very comfortable. If your golf shop doesn't sell this hat go to another golf course!!
I always find it disgusting when someone is wearing a dirty old golf hat. Clean the thing for goodness sake. Here is a video of how I clean my golf hats and keep them looking new.
When it comes to sunscreen for my face I am unbelievably picky. I hate them all! But here is one I started wearing last year and it is awesome. If you are like me and hate the greasy feeling of sunscreen on your face, you will like this one.
This is the sunscreen that I wear on my arms. It has an alcohol base and dries nicely. It also doesn't sweat off, which is very important because I live in "LA". When I wear the white creamy types they sweats off quickly. Try this one, you will like it.
I started showing the symptoms of rosacea in late 2015. My face began to breakout on my right cheek, my nose, and forehead. The picture to the right is of me in Ireland in September of 2016. To that point I had not yet been to the dermatologist. I was trying to get it under control on my own. My face would flare up for three or four days and then calm down. I always felt I had it under control during the calm periods just to have it flare up again. The breakout eventually became painful and more severe.
I went to a dermatologist and was diagnosed with rosacea. I know, shocking!! I am not going to explain what rosacea is because you can find that all over the internet, and I am not a doctor. I just wanted to share the products I use to help with my situation. As you probably know, there is not a cure for rosacea, just treatment to manage it's symptoms. My face still flares up, and I can feel when it is happening, but the medication I will discuss below really keeps it under control. If you are showing symptoms I highly suggest you see a dermatologist as well.
My doctor prescribed Metrogel (Metronidazole), a topical gel that you apply to your face once a day. Right away I saw improvements, however not as much improvement as would like. I researched and found an over the counter medication called Prosacea that looked like it would be a good suppliment to Metrogel. I called my dermatologist and he gave me the okay to use it. So I put Prosacea on my face in the morning after I shower, and Metrogel on at night after I shower. Sometimes during the middle of the day I will wash my face and add more Prosacea. This regimen seems to help the best.
With rosacea I am very careful of my face wash product and moisturizer. Below I will show you the products I use . Sunscreen is also very important, so look at the section above for my recommendation.
You can find Prosacea at any drugstore or Walmart for that matter, but I will add a link below for you to find it online.
Alba Botanica Hawaiian Facial Cleaner is my daily choice. It seems to be gentle on my face and gets the job done. I buy mine from Amazon most of the time and I buy three at a time. Sometimes I can find it at TJ Max, but I don't go looking for it specifically. If I am there and they have it I buy it.
If you read my sunscreen info you know I don't like stuff on my face, but sometimes I have to moisturize. And the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is my favorite. Not greasy and gets the job done well. Again you should be able to find this in a local store, but I provided a link in case you want to look.
I use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Face Wash when I travel. I was out of Town one time and forgot my Alba wash. So I found this and liked it. I use it for travel because I can twist the top closed and it doesn't leak.
This is the face wash my girlfriend uses, so I use it when I am at her house. It is good and as it says gentle. Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. You can find this anywhere.
Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer is one you may want to try. I bought this when I was searching for my favorite and it comes in a close second. I have this at my girlfriends house and use there when needed. It also has an SPF of 15!
